Henderson welcomes anyone to come share its way of life. A visitor to Henderson sees a modern school, a hospital with a new addition for the clinic, a nursing home, assisted living units, three city and three rural churches, recreational facilities including a new swimming pool, sand volleyball court, tennis courts, 9-hole golf course, two ball fields, and two parks equipped with picnic facilities and play structures -- one centrally located and one with a walk path around a peaceful lake. The well kept appearance of the city indicates a sense of pride of ownership and the industriousness to do more than just clean and paint. The curbed and paved streets complement the well-kept yards and homes. Henderson traces its accomplishments back to its cultural Mennonite religious heritage, dating back to 1874 when thirty-five families left Russia because of religious beliefs and migrated to the Henderson area.
