Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery

“…special thanks for helping me when we had questions – and assuring us.”

Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery

Our obstetric practice is wide-ranging yet intimate and accessible. We believe that your involvement in your own birth process is the first and most important step toward a safe and satisfying delivery.

Because no two patients are alike, our approach to labor and delivery is equally as diverse. We help you develop a birth plan that is consistent with your own needs and goals. While we support women who choose an epidural for pain relief, we are also advocates of labor support doulas and natural childbirth.

One of life’s most joyous occasions is the birth of a new baby. At Henderson Health Care, we know that every family’s birth experience is unique and every baby is a special and precious gift. Childbirth and parenting are more enjoyable and successful when you have personal attention and know what to expect.

Henderson Health Care offers state-of-the-art amenities and equipment for labor and delivery. Our new labor and delivery suite is designed to provide a home-like atmosphere with a spacious room for mother and family, complete with comfy furnishings, a TV and a whirlpool bath for mom.

Several times during the year, Baby Boot Camps are scheduled. These are training sessions for new mothers to teach them the basics of baby care.

Experienced Staff

Henderson Hospital is staffed with registered nurses, cross-trained to care for both you and your baby. Anesthesia is available. If you need a Cesarean, you can rest easy: our physicians are trained to perform Cesarean sections.

An experienced labor and delivery nurse provides information, support and encouragement to you throughout the labor and delivery process. Your physician will also be available during labor and will preside over the delivery process ensuring the well-being of both you and your child. A spouse or birthing partner is encouraged to take an active role in your labor and delivery and is welcome to stay overnight to provide additional support.

As the patient, you are encouraged to explore your options for pain management with your physician. It is a good idea to have a general plan for what techniques, if any, you wish to employ; however, you should keep in mind that when you are actually in labor you may desire to make a different decision than what you had originally planned.

Fetal Monitoring System

When you arrive at the hospital for your delivery, we’ll monitor your contractions and the rate and rhythm of your baby’s heart to ensure you and your baby receive the best possible care. Our telemetry fetal monitoring equipment also combines safety with mobility – as we monitor your baby’s well-being and the progress of your labor, you are free to walk around your room and the birthing center – and even relax in your private whirlpool tub.

Pain Management

Besides the use of relaxation and breathing techniques and a whirlpool tub, there are a variety of medicines that can help manage the pain related to labor and delivery. The two most common options are an intravenous injection of narcotic medicine or a regional anesthetic (epidural). Our anesthetists will work with you to ensure that you receive the right amount of medicine to facilitate pain relief. During your pregnancy you should discuss the benefits and side effects of all medical pain management options with your physician.

Personal Lactation Support

It sometimes takes infants and new mothers a little while to get used to breastfeeding. We provide personal lactation support to help you and your baby learn to work together to make sure nutritional goals are met – even after you go home.

Advanced Security

You may wish to have your baby “room in” the entire length of your stay or you may want to have the baby spend time in our secure nursery in order for you to rest and regain your energy.

Special Meal

Henderson Health Care joins in celebrating the birth of your new baby by offering you and your spouse or a guest a complimentary gourmet dinner. This special dinner for two provides a time for you to quietly celebrate the birth of your baby.
